Mixed Prints feat. Printed Denim

Happy Spring!

She sure took her time getting here.  As I stated in my last post...I was seriously not motivated to go out in the cold to snap some pictures.  I know I do it during the Winter but my body has already come out of winter mode.  I was refusing to go out and shiver for a few minutes.  Call me a bad blogger if you wanna but I just couldn't do it. So, Hello Spring!  Even though I don't think you will stick around long...Summer is coming to visit today.

So I made it no secret that I started this blog because I needed some "umph" to my style.  I figured it would help me step out and grow to try some different things.  I am so pleased with my growth.  But all in all, I am soooo grateful for my fellow bloggers who challenge me to step out of my fashion comfort zone.  Fist bump to you all!

I would have NEVER worn anything close to this  a couple years ago.  Not only would I wear it now but I am comfy doing it.  I mean really...MIXED PRINTS?!?  Yep...this type of outfit has taken residence in my comfort zone.  I know it is not for everyone but I tell you what...It is soooo fun to wear!

Now let's talk about the printed denim...on these thighs?!?  And you know it!  lol.   Some time ago, never would I put anything on my legs to bring attention to the fact that they are not modelesque.  But the fact that I am OK with print on my legs now opens up a whole new world.

So when I walked into to Target these jeans jumped out at me and I said to myself "what the heck...let's do this!"  *Side note*  When I go to Target, I have to force myself not to go anywhere near the women's clothes.  I will always find something...umm...more like several things.  OK...back to the jeans.  I love the edgy print and if you need to do something different these will definitely get the job done.

My espadrille wedges get replaced in my shoe collection every couple of years because in or out of style,  I wear the heck out of them.  After wearing boots all winter the are a great transition shoe and great when you need your toes done. *wink*

I will say that if you do decided to step out of your comfort zone in your fashion choices, you have to do it with confidence. If you are uncomfortable it will show and it will not work.  Ever notice a young lady tugging at her short skirt constantly?  Get my drift?  Has blogging helped your style to evolve?

Layers: Dots, Stripes & Leopard

Hey heyyyyy!!!

Do you know how hard it is to stay motivated to go outside and take pictures when it is nippy?  Well...let us just say VERY hard.   For all of my fellow bloggers who live in the cold regions, I am sure you can certainly relate.   I have been wanting to get out there and take some but when I think about the cold, I say "ummmmm, nevermind" hence the almost month gap since my last post.

Yesterday was absolutely beautiful in the DMV so I got out there and posed a lil bit.

I am so ready for the weather to officially break for spring but one thing I will miss (as I do every year) is winter clothes.  I love layering.  The layered look is my signature go to look.  Every now and then I have to do something little sexy to make my husband swoon but most of the time, this is me.

Spring is definitely one of my favorite time of year.  Nothing like getting in your car on the first great spring Saturday of the season, rolling the windows down with the music on and just going for it.  That is everything!

Speaking of music, certain songs just speak of dropping the imaginary (at least for me) top on the car and grooving down the road.  Anthony Hamilton's "Best of Me" is just perfect for that.
It is amazing...amazing!

Are you ready for Spring?  You already know...

Houndstooth & Python

Hey y'all!

I hope you all had a great holiday weekend.  I don't know about you but I got a little emotional all over again watching some of the Inauguration festivities just as I did four years ago.  I don't know what is more of an honor to Dr. King's dream than to have this Nation's first Black President to be inaugurated for the 2nd term on they day we honor his legacy.  Wow.

I have been forced to shop my closet more often lately and probably will be doing it more during the next few months.  My husband and I have been doing the most financially the past three months and now the boys' extra curricular activities is really attacking our pockets.  I don't complain because this is what I signed up for.  I just really hope the boys will eventually understand how much we sacrifice for them.  I digress. So we are dialing it back a lil.

Having said all this...in this outfit you have seen both tops before.  The houndstooth top is one of my "go to's" and to add a pop of color I decided to layer my red python blouse under it.

Vivid Floral and Dots!

Hey y'all...

Imma make this post quick because I am trying to finish this to watch the
Heat and Celtics battle it out.

Today, I felt like a old fashioned school teacher, or a good ole church lady
(minus the church fan on a stick advertising the local funeral home) in my floral but
I modernized it with some print mixing with the dots.

Skirt & Cardigan: Thrifted   Polka Dot top: H&M  Shoes: Shoe Dazzle

Alright ladies and gents (if any of you are lurking)...off to watch the game!

I am partying with Corie at her spot...please check us out HERE!

Pinstriped Pants...2 Ways!

Happy Monday you guys!  I hope you had a great weekend.

I didn't get a chance to post last week and I was not happy about it! Life took precedent and you know how it goes...you have to roll with it.  It was all good stuff though...being a mommy, a wife and a supportive friend.  I was happy doing all those things but unhappy that I didn't get a chance to post.  All of you bloggers know what I mean.

One of my new favorite items in my closet is my thrifted white pinstriped pants.  They are so comfy and very versatile.  I wore these pants twice last week and here is how...

Yesterday, the Mr. and I had our monthly get together with our friends and our marriage support group.  As I mentioned before this entails good food, good conversation and boat loads of good laughs!  It is usually a very casual thing so I opted to put on my pinstriped pants and dress them down with my blinged out "Afro Diva" tee also seen here.

I decided to throw on my red canvas pumps for the pics because I may swap out my flats for pumps the next time I wear this outfit.

Saturday was not the first time I wore these pants this week.  I wore them to work on Wednesday and
I wanted to support a friend who had a gig Wednesday evening.  She is a beautiful vocalist and guest appears with a local jazz ensemble.  I wanted to wear something chic to work that I can easily transition from day to evening.  This is what I wore.

This is the evening version of this outfit.  What I did for the day is tie the drawstring tighter so that is did not fall off the shoulder....BAM!  I am such a genius!  (I hope you all read the sarcasm)
I apologize for not capturing the blouse with it tied tighter.

Of course it wouldn't have been appropriate to be giving shoulder action in the office but it was definitely OK to do it during the night scene.  I am not one to really show to much flesh but I love giving some shoulder...lol

Black and white mixed prints with a  lil pop of color!  My fave! :)

Since I last posted we lost some extraordinary folks to the music world.

Most of you are probably very familiar with Donna Summer.  She was our Disco Queen.  I am a seventies baby so I clearly recall hearing Disco on a regular in my house.  I even remember having one of my birthday parties at a kiddie disco and winning a dance contest.  I probably danced to a Donna Summer song.  My favorite Donna Summer song was Bad Girl  "toot toot ahh beep beep!"

Now Chuck...if you are not from the DMV (DC, MD, VA area) then your knowledge of Chuck is probably very limited if you have any at all.  Chuck Brown was the Godfather of the percussion driven Go-Go music.  If you are not familiar with Go-Go music let me remind you of Da Butt from Spike Lee's School Daze, Shake Your Thang by Salt N Pepa (which had a go go swing), Nelly's Hot in Herre sampled Chuck's break out single Bustin Loose (which also was used in a national Chips Ahoy commercial) and most recently Jill Scott did a duet with Chuck himself.  The song was called Love and got them a grammy nomination.  I am sure there's more but these were the few than came to mind.  Go-go music is an acquired taste...this is coming from someone who is not a native of the DMV.  I learned to love GoGo and Chuck Brown's way of infusing jazz into his music was one of the biggest reasons why.  Chuck Brown passed at 75 but he was still rocking out the crowds as of recent. To see him in concert was an experience!  My faves of his was his covers of Hoochie Coochie Man and Moody's Mood For Love.  Wind em up Chuck!

May Donna, the Queen of Disco and Chuck, the Godfather of GoGo rest in eternal peace!

Thank you all for visiting.
