Workin' the Pleated Maxi!

Hey ladies and gents!

I hope you all are doing well.  I know I have mentioned this before but I love being able to come home and take pics in the daylight!!  Totally fabulous!  Let's talk about what I wore to work today.

My pleated maxi skirt!  Pleats are trending and a couple of weeks ago I told you all that I had a coupon that I had to use at Ashley Stewart before it expired.  While I was there I bumped into this skirt on the sale rack and couldn't pass it up.  As far as how to style it, I had something else in mind when I picked up but this is how I wore it today.  The real reason why I wore it today was because it was the first chill we had in a while and I put away all my winter clothes.  I knew spring was gonna play peek-a-boo.  I wore this skirt so that I could hide the footless leggings I wore to keep my gams warm.  You gotta do what you gotta do...even though I could have worn slacks but I was looking for an excuse to wear the darn skirt...sue me!

Forgot to Post...Last Sweater.

Happy Hump Day!

So, it is now spring and I have officially rotated my closet.  All my winter clothes are hibernating now.  Nothing like the change of the season to get you 'fashionably' excited.  So much so that I maybe improperly dressed today and I don't care.  I have bare legs, exposed toes and a chill to go along with it.

Today's featured look was something I forgot to post.  I don't know if you all know but after daylights savings time ended, I would do photo shoots on the weekend.  I would do 2 and 3 in one weekend and then stagger the posts just to keep stuff coming.  Well, this one I forgot to post.  I wanted to catch the sunrise on a beautiful Saturday morning and it would have been cruel to wake my regular photographer (my son) up.   I got my husband out of the bed at 8 in the morning to catch the sunrise.  It was actually sorta romantic. I literally threw these clothes on and ran out, hence only having a few good pics.   Thank you Mr. Mac for putting up with my blogging shenanigans!

I don't think the hubby did too bad with this one...groggy and all he caught a good one.  At least I'd like to think. :)

This is probably the last of the sweaters you will see for a minute!

Happy Spring!

Rockin the Red!

Today is Saturday, March 10, 2012 and I am rockin' the red pumps espadrilles!
(My pumps are not too comfortable.)

You may be saying "OK?" and giving the blank stare.  Well, it's all good but I say I am rocking the red because it is...
National Women and Girls HIV/AIDS Awareness Day (NWGHAAD)

and I'm supporting the Red Pump Project!

fm;flf,l;ef,

The Red Pump Project™ raises awareness about the impact of HIV/AIDS on women and girls. Our mission is to promote HIV prevention through education, and open dialogue about the issues that surround sexual and reproductive health. They do work online and on the ground to motivate action and encourage dialogue about the effects of the disease.  The whole purpose is to get us to talk about it...so let's chat...

Did you know...
Every 47 minutes, a woman tests positive for HIV in the United States?

Isn't that a shocking statistic?  Well, here are some more unsettling stats:

HIV/AIDS in the United States:
  • Every 9.5 minutes, someone in the US will be infected with HIV.
  • There are more than 1 million adults and adolescents in the United States living with HIV. Approximately one-fifth of them (21%) do not know that they have been infected.
Women and HIV/AIDS:
  • In 2006, women made up 25% of the persons living with HIV in the United States. Women also represented 27% of new HIV infections in 2006.
  • High-risk heterosexual contact is the source of 80% of these newly diagnosed infections in women in the US.
  • From the beginning of the epidemic through 2005, almost 86,000 women have died of AIDS and AIDS-related complications.
  • The largest number of HIV/AIDS diagnoses during recent years was for women aged 15–39.
  • Seven of the 10 states with the highest case rates among women are in the South.
Minority Women and HIV/AIDS:
  • HIV/AIDS disproportionately affects minority women in the United States. According to the 2005 census, Black and Latina women represent 24% of all US women combined, but accounted for 82% of the estimated total of AIDS diagnoses for women in 2005.
  • HIV is the leading cause of death for Black women (including Black women) aged 25–34 years. The only diseases causing more deaths of women are cancer and heart disease.
  • The rate of AIDS diagnosis for Black women was approximately 23 times the rate for white women and 4 times the rate for Latina women.
  • In 2006, teen girls represented 39% of AIDS cases reported among 13–19 year-olds. Black teens represented 69% of cases reported among 13–19 year-olds; Latino teens represented 19%.
Youth and HIV/AIDS:
  • In 2006, the CDC estimates that almost 46,000 young people, ages 13-24, were living with HIV in the US. Women comprised 28% of these HIV/AIDS cases among 13-24 year-olds.
  • African-American young adults are disproportionately affected by HIV, accounting for 60% of HIV/AIDS diagnoses in 13-24 year olds in 2006.
These statistics were from The Center for Disease Control’s website and the Kaiser Family Foundation’s Fact Sheets (which cited the CDC). You can get more information about the effect of the epidemic from these sites.

That's more than enough to take in, right?

My fellow fashion friends, do you know your status?  If not...no judgement but it is critical that you find out as soon as humanly possible.  HIV/AIDS is not a death sentence but you have to know if you are infected to get the necessary treatment to have a longer life.

I ask that if you are reading this, please ask yourself if you are living a life that puts you at risk for HIV/AIDS.  Please please please be honest with yourself.  If the answer is yes, then again, no judgement but I encourage you to get tested.

I know this is some heavy stuff and I try to keep things light around here but sometimes you just have to talk about it, even when you don't wanna. Thanks for chatting with me!  I love you more for it!!!

Blocked & Mixed!

Hello my lovely fashion friends!

I bid all my new friends a warm welcome!

I hope you all are well.  I am hanging in there but I need a vacation!

Nahhh...it isn't that bad but the Mr. and I are counting down the days to our anniversary :)

Alright peeps, there is nothing like getting out of a fashion funk with some color blocking!
I know I said it before but I will say it again...I will be the LAST person rocking this trend.
When the monochromatic trend picks up, I will be getting the side eye because of my colors.  Just the same way white after Labor Day gets the side eye.  I will NOT let it go!  So to all my fellow fashionistas who are done with color blocking now, I apologize. I do I do I do I do I dooooooo
You know I do! Heh.

FATIGUED!

Hi y'all!

I am soooo behind in my blog life.  I haven't posted at all this week and I have read very little of the all the blogs I follow.  It is due to a somewhat busy week.  Last night I was hanging out like I was grown.  I was able to sleep in today but I am still fatigued!  I only went out today because I had a 40% off coupon for Ashley Stewart that expired today and I wanted to use it.  Seriously...only the opportunity to save a dollar could get me out of my bed today.

The featured outfit is what I wore today but before I get to that I wanted to say I am on my to the hospital.  My niece is about to make her grand entrance!  Didn't my sister get the "FATIGUED" memo?!?  Leave it up to her to go into labor when I'm tired.  If you didn't catch the sarcasm, then you may be in need of some rest too. I wasn't planning to post tonight but I am passing the time a lil until my sister's contractions are closer.  I also feel the minute I lay down my phone will ring.  So, here I am.

OK, back to my outfit.  It is nothing special.  I just happen to capture a couple of pictures before running up to the mall.  I also felt like I needed to post something which is why I took the pictures.  Just a "WeekendIAmDoingNothingSpecialButRunningUpToTheMallToSaveADollar" look.  But all in all...I just wanted to say "heyyyyyyy"
