A Very Dear & Important "Off-Topic" for Me!

Hey Fashion Friends!

This post is off the topic of fashion but very important to me and would mean more to me if you hear me out.

As you know from my last post I have been a little M.I.A. because I have been extremely busy with my sons' football season.  You also know my youngest son have gone deep into the post season and have managed to stay undefeated and repeat as Conference, State and Regional champions.  With this they are advancing to the National Championship in Florida.  To go to Nationals it is a heavy expense and us parents have been actively raising money since July.  Thanks to the help of many, we are close to our goal, yet there is still in need.

Dear Prospective Sponsor:

My name is Devan Parrish and I am a member of the Prince George’s Storm Youth Association’s Cadet Football team. My football team has earned the right to compete in the 2012 American Youth Football National Championship, which will be held in Orlando, Florida, December 1-8, 2012. The cost of travel and related expenses for the 20 players and 5 staff members is approximately $20,000.

Prince George’s Storm Youth Association has been in existence since 2002 with great leadership, volunteer coaches and staff, parent participation, and community support. The Storm’s mission is to offer a range of quality athletic, educational and outreach programs as a vehicle to: impart Christian-based principles, empower and develop youth leadership, cultivate a fun and safe environment for youth, and strengthen and build strong communities. As one of the longest-running, independent youth organization in the state Maryland, Prince George’s Storm has achieved various levels of success during its ten year history.

I respectfully ask you to make a donation today. Your contribution will go a long way to help make our dream a reality. We take pride in being a team of hard-working young men between the ages of nine and eleven, who excel both on and off the football field. My teammates and I work hard in the classroom and are all honor roll students.  We participate in a variety of extracurricular activities, and serve as youth leaders in our community. Please contact my coach at president@pgstorm.com if you would like additional information or go to www.pgstorm.com to learn more about the Storm.

Respectfully,

Devan  #10 and the PG Storm
(2012 Metro AYF Conference, Maryland State and Atlantic Regional Champions)

______________________________________________________________________________

Please help support Devan and his team in this effort. Whatever you can donate would be greatly appreciated.  Here is the Storm’s Rally page. If you want to donate you can find Devan’s picture and click donate. For Devan to receive the credit you have to use his name when you type in the comments section. So basically, you can just say “Go Devan!” or something like that.

Many thanks you in advance!!!

Layered Run DMC Tee

Greeting greeting greetings!!!

It has been more than a minute and I am soooo ashamed to call myself a blogger.  This time the only thing I can blame is my busy schedule as if we all don't have busy schedules. tsk tsk tsk.

For those who have been following me for a while, you may remember that my boys play football.  Well, this year I took a more active role with my youngest son's team and let me say that this has been major work.More on that later.

Yesterday I went shopping, to a movie to see Flight and dinner.  This was my outfit of choice.

It was a gorgeous day yesterday so I decided to do a couple of layers.
I dressed up my Run DMC tee with some colored jeans, a houndstooth button up and pumps.

I am quick to layer a tee with a button up.
Great way to do layers when it is not quite cool enough for a sweater

The pumps were a good idea until I realized how much I was going to be on my feet. Then I decided to do away with the cute factor and put on my comfy chucks.

It is amazing sometimes the different tone an outfit takes when you put on flats of some sort.

Houndstooth Button up and Brick Jeans: Thrifted   RunDMC tee: Target (Men's Section)
Pumps: Faryl Robin Sneakers: Converse Chuck Taylor   Bag: Flea Market

OK...now back to football.  My youngest son's team is undefeated, repeat conference and state champions going into the regional this coming Saturday.  If they win on Saturday, they will advance to the Nationals in Florida.  This is why I have been so busy.  On top of the regular things that come with extra curricular activites, we have been actively fundraising to raise money for this trip.  Last year we opted to not go and one of the biggest reasons was because we didn't have the money.

Wooohooo!!!  Get em boys!!!

With this being said, football season will not be over for another 5 weeks, so I am not going to pretend to be here too much often until after but I will certainly try my best.  Thank you in advance for sticking with me.

Blessings!!!

I Feel Like A Woman!

Happy Monday Beautiful Ones!

Ever been extremely happy and for no particular reason?  This is what I feel today.  Granted, the fact that I woke up this morning with breath in my lungs, activity of my limbs and in my right mind is enough; don't get me wrong but beyond that, I am extra happy!  And no it isn't the fruit loops.  All I can say is...

Before I get into the featured outfit of this post, I want to beg humbly ask for your votes.  As you know, I completed the Big Fat Summer Challenge and now the poll is open.  I would truly appreciate each and every one of your votes.  The poll is HERE,  You can vote daily until August 12th.  I appreciate you all and good luck to all the participants!

Alright y'all this is what I call my grown woman outfit.

I call it that because as soon as I put it on, I actually felt like the 38 year old woman that I am.

See, my secret is I struggle with certain things I wear because I feel like I don't look like a grown woman.  I sometimes feel like the next woman and I could have on a the same outfit but I somehow will make it look immature.  I think it is because of a baby face I used to have that I think has finally aged a little bit.  Somewhere there is a screw loose in my head. I know...lol.

But this outfit somehow didn't leave me feeeling like that...

Dress and Vest: Thrifted    Shoes: Guess   Clutch & Jewlery: NYC vendor

I have been loving this vest and putting some major use to it.
You've seen it twice before here and here where I dressed it down.
Gotta love remixing items in your closet to get maxium use of your wardrobe.

Again...please visit the BFSC polls and vote for me!
Or just vote for someone all the
participants did a fabulous job!

Thanks for your votes and as always thanks for stopping by!

BFSC: Tavia is wearing a Bikini!

Hey Fly People!
Welp y'all here it is...
The submission I put off until last for Jasifer's Big Fat Summer Challenge
because it was the biggest challenge of them all!
The BIKINI!!!
(insert dramatic music here)

Here is my bikini...or is it?  Scroll down for the funny part of my "bikini".
Pics taken on Myrtle Beach a couple of weeks ago when I was there for my family reunion.

It is funny because I knew how I wanted to reflect on doing this challenge and I literally just read a post from the fabulous Juanette expressing better than I probably would have, my exact feelings.  Please, check it out.

Now I will say my that my self image has come a long way.  I used to be an athlete.  I ran track and was in tip top shape.  Then I had babies, gained weight, and gone through a divorce.  All of this was murder on my self esteem.  I did not feel great about myself at all.  But I will say that God is always good and all I have to do is remind myself that I am fearfully and wonderfully made!  I praise God because he created me and his work is wonderful! Every lump, bump and dimple is who I am and I accept it.

Also...I have been blessed with a husband who loves me, flaws and all!  After almost 10 years of being together he still looks at me like we just started dating and I am so appreciative to have him! Yes, a woman's self worth should not be because of a man and I so agree with that but it truly couldn't hurt a woman's esteem when she has a man who genuinely compliments her every chance he gets.   Tony makes me feel good!

I learned so much about myself every time I put on something I thought I would never ever wear.
So to all the participants of this challenge, I shout you out because if you gained what I gained, you have done some real stepping out of comfort zones!  Kudos to you all!

Jennifer thanks for doing this...you rock girl!

Now for the funny part of wearing this bikini.  I got this swimsuit yearssss ago from Walmart.  This has to be at least 5 or 6 years old.  I was not one to buy swimsuits so I bought one just to have one.
I didn't own a bikini and as I mentioned before I was on a spending diet.
So I had to make it do what it do, baby.

This is what my swim suit really looks like.  It has a band in a middle that made for easy tucking.  I swear, it was made like that on purpose because it tucked perfectly and looked just like a bikini.

Before all this, I was not trying to buy a bikini to wear it only one time...so I thought.
Hey ya gotta do what ya gotta do!

Thanks for stopping by.

Python Pumps Dressed Up &Down:BFSC!

Hey Fashion Friends!

The weekend is coming to a close and I am wondering where the heck did it go?!?  It seems like I had a whole lot nothing going on and was just as busy a one legged man in a butt kicking contest.  If that didn't make any sense to you, don't feel bad because it sure didn't make any sense to me either...lol.  I just can't put my finger on why I am not ready for the week to start.  Oh well.

This post is a TWOFER...two outfits in one post!

I decided to feature my favorite turquoise python pumps dressed up and dressed down.
First up...the dressed up!

These Chinese Laundry pumps are definitely the go to shoes in my closet.  This is because they are chic but most important they are comfy!  I can wear these for extended amount of time and my toes are not ready to disown me.  You've seen these before in at least two of my previous posts.  If you click the Chinese Laundry or python label below, it will take you to the other posts.  I know, I should provide you with the links but I am being lazy...judge me if you like.

In this outfit I thought mixing the stripes with the python print would give it a more chic look and take it up a notch...BAM!

*side note* I need some good Emeril Lagasse Jambalaya in my life right about now.
I am starving as I type this.

Blouse: Ashley Stewart  Skirt: Thrifted:  Pumps: Chinese Laundry  Bag: Charming Charlie

Shout out to my son Tre' for not telling my bag was backwards.
I guess this was payback because I made him get up to take my pictures before I went to work.

Next up is the python pumps dressed down also my second to last submission to Jasifer's Big Fat Summer Challenge...the CROPPED TOP!  Woot woot!

Showing my belly love!

Confession:  I didn't have a cropped top and I'm on a spending diet so I had to improvise.
I made this top from a old thrifted sweater.

This was another item that was out of my comfort zone...hence me not even having a cropped top. But as said before, this is the whole purpose of this challenge.
Will I buy a real cropped top in the future?

Sure, why not?!?

Top and Levi Shorts: Thrifted  Bag: NY Vendor  Belt:  Sean John  Watch: Fossil
Necklace: Flea Market  Beaded Bracelets: DIY

Thank you all for stopping by.

Color Blocked Stripes: BFSC!

Hola Chicas and Chicos!

It has been a little longer than I would have liked since my last post but I was away at my family reunion in Myrtle Beach, SC.  It was a great time reconnecting with family and get away on a mini vacay.

Continuing on down the stretch of Jasifer's Big Fat Summer Challenge, I wanted to mark bodycon off the list.

Wow...almost finished.  It has been fun!  That teenie weenie bikini is coming soon y'all!

OK back to the skirt.  I've worn this skirt several times. I posted it here and I decided to remix it.

Jacket: Dots  Bodycon skirt: Thrifted  Shell: Kmart  Shoes:  GoJane  Accessories: Flea Market

This pic is such a bad angle but I'm using it anyway.

In the spirit of the bodycon and keeping up with the purpose of this challenge which is too help us out of our comfort zones and to show others that plus size women can tactfully wear alot of the items on this list, here is another pic of me wearing a striped bodycon skirt from a previous post.

Thank you all for stopping by!
