Oxymorons & BFSC!

Hi y'all!  

Happy Monday and all that good stuff there!

What is an oxymoron?  Merriam-Webster's definition is...

A combination of contradictory or incongruous words (as cruel kindness); broadly : something (as a concept) that is made up of contradictory or incongruous elements

Me wearing this tropical dress in NYC a.k.a. the concrete jungle!  A serious 'oxymoronic' concept!

This dress has the Caribbean or some other tropical paradise written all over it, so it was fun to throw it on far from the Caribbean to be comfortable while shopping.

 

I was born and raised in the Bronx and I don't get back as often as I used to but when I do, I immediately catch the NY vibe.  You know...the moving and shaking vibe.  No matter what you got going on, you have to get where you need to be in a hurry.  Nothing relaxed about the city.  Another reason having this relaxed maxi on is an oxymoron.

This dress is also striking strapless off the list for Jasifer's Big Fat Summer Challenge

I love to people watch and I took a breather and sat in Greeley Square and had a good time. 

New Yorkers are a very unique breed of people.  The best entertainment ever!  

Well...almost better than a Broadway show...lol

 

There are a few things that definitely speak "New Yorkan" to me and I captured a few of them.

 

A hot dog stand, the yellow cab and Mr. Softee.  I didn't get a chance to get a sloppy slice of New York Pizza (darnit!) and I forgot to get a pic of my coconut icee I had from a street vendor. I didn't catch any street performers either.  Oh well...there will definitely be a next time.

Neons

Hey y'all!

It's Monday morning and I survived the weekend.  I say survived because I woke up Saturday morning with pink eye.  WHATINDAWORLD?!? My eye was swollen and sealed shut. Ewwwwww, lol.   Well...long story short, I had to cancel all my weekend plans and pretty much quarantined myself so that I wouldn't infect anyone else.  Several medicated eye drops later and a clean DVR, I am good now.

*side note*  I am feeling Kerry Washington's new show "Scandal"

OK, this picture is one of a few pics I took during a shoot a couple of weeks ago but ask me where the rest of the pictures are.  Actually don't ask.  I lost them.  I have this one because I emailed it to myself.  I was going to use it in a preview picture.  The rest of them are GHOST!  I decided to post the lone pic because you can get the gist of the outfit in this one pic.

This outfit consists of  neon pink jeans, color blocked with yellow and blue paired with a white tank (aka wife beater) and blazer.  What you can barely see is the blazer has the cool pattern of a blue, pink and yellow plaid in it.  I thought it was too fun of a fit too waste and not blog.  What do you guys think?

I Will Rock My Red Pumps!

Hey to my fellow Divas and if I happen to have any fellas lurking...

What's up Divos?!

I am bright eyed and bushy tailed as I type this post because we have a beautiful day on tap here in the DMV!  Spring is right around the corner y'all!  Daylight savings time begin in a little over two weeks.  I don't mind losing an hour of precious sleep if it means that we gain an extra hour of daylight.  For us bloggers that hour is precious to us for photo shoot optimization.

The Red Pump Project is a great organization and movement that is bringing awareness of the impact HIV/AIDS is having on women and girls.  While great progress has been made in the area of HIV/AIDS prevention and treatment, women still represent 27% of all new AIDS diagnoses, with African-American women accounting for 66% of that group.  Did you know every 35 minutes a woman is tested positive for HIV in the U.S.?   To me that is an alarming number for my community, so I am doing the least I can do to help.  I will have a dedicated post on March 9th and rock my red pumps on March 10th but before those dates I will mention it in every post to get you all involved. 

The goal for the organization this year is getting 2500 blogs involved and painting the blogosphere RED.  Will you join me? Here are a few ways to join in. 

• Sign up to “Rock the Red Pump” and embed one of the five custom badges in the sidebar of your website and/or blog.
• Dedicate a post to the important issue of HIV/AIDS and women on March 9, 2012
• Snap a photo in your favorite pair of red shoes and share with them via their Facebook page, Twitter, and/or Tumblr.
• Spread the word and tell a friend!

Burnt Orange, Cobalt and Polka Dots

Hi all...Great Monday Morning!

I had a pretty good weekend.  It was pretty uneventful but that isn't a bad thing. 

Me and the boys got out and enjoyed the beautiful weather on Saturday. 

It was gorgeous and just had me all ready for Spring!

I am at work today but don't feel bad for me because we observe President's day at the end of the year along with Veteran's day and Columbus day and get the week after Christmas off. 

Today's outfit was inspired by the fabulous Prissy over at Rush Our Fashion.  Prissy, did a post on her blog some time ago and I said then that I would put together something similar because I had the pieces and I loved her look.  I am just getting around to doing it.

I opted to go with some Cobalt shoes and purse.  As you may have noticed, orange and blue are faves of mine to pair. 

It was a beautifully breezy day.  I wish I had on a dress or something flowy to create some photo magic...lol.

Tangerine, Lemon and Blueberry!

Hey everybody!

Before I go any further let me say a special hello to all my new peeps!

Today we celebrate the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.  I hope you all found some time to reflect on what his efforts mean to your present day life.  I believe that because we've come along way from when Dr. King first set out to get some things changed, we tend to easily forget.  Yes, we've come a long way but we still have a some ways to go. 

Happy Birthday Dr. King! Continue to Rest in Peace!

Well alright alright!  How y'all doin?

Today's outfit post is for my link up with everyone at Everybody Every Wear! 

As you can see, this month's challenge is Black and White.  Now I know I mentioned it before, but I LOVE wearing black and white.  So needless to say I was excited to participate.  Talk about an easy challenge.  I previously did a post wearing black and white HERE, and it is one of my faves.  Black and white almost always turns out to be such a classic look.  If you don't believe me, click the link below to head over to EBEW and you will see exactly what I am talking about.  Those ladies are looking gorgeous!  In my outfit here, I decided to focus on the white with a touch of black and python.  I truly adore wearing white, I always feel so fresh and so clean, clean! (OutKast, circa 2000) That's until I rub up against something and then be mad about it for the rest of the day!  UGH! *breathe*

 ...I'm dressed so fresh and so clean...so fresh and so clean, clean!  *side note*  I love OutKast :-)

I know most of my fellow bloggers will not crucify me for wearing white pants this time of year because most of you are rule breakers too! *wink*  Let's tell the fashion police what's up!  What do they know?

So I got this bag over the holiday break and couldn't wait to carry it but opted to wait until I found the right shoes.  Did I find the right ones?
